Are You Running a Chiropractic Business… Or a Babysitting Service?

You knew becoming a chiropractic CEO would take a lot of work. If you start a business thinking that you can sit back and just watch the money roll in… Well, here comes reality to smack you with some truth.

But that doesn’t mean you never get to take a day off.

Right now, do you feel like that’s possible? Do you feel like you can take even one full day off from your chiropractic business without checking your phone every 10 minutes?

I know that when I went from working as a chiropractor to starting a business, I ran myself into the ground. I took zero days off. I worried all the time. Forget about vacations!

And, you know, that’s not a sustainable path. All of that worry and checking in on your staff members will burn you out fast.

At some point, I realized I wasn’t running a chiropractic business. I was basically running a babysitting service. I felt like the wheels would fall off if I didn’t manage every aspect of the business 24 hours a day.

Let me be very clear: You CANNOT run a business like this.

You will burn out. You will lose your patience, and you will lose your patients.

But successful chiropractic CEOs know it doesn’t have to be like that.

What’s Standing in the Way?

Some people will tell you that your expectations are too high. You need to cut your team some slack.

You should absolutely treat all of your team members well, but your expectations aren’t the problem. Your employees can absolutely close and onboard new patients at a 90% or higher rate.

So what is it? What’s standing in the way?

They haven’t been trained to think like you. They don’t know the right system, so they’re out there constantly bobbing and weaving, doing their best but never really contributing to your practice’s success.

Meanwhile, what do you get? You lose sales. You hear a bunch of complaints from clients. You end up with this revolving door because you’re constantly hiring and firing people. As if you’ll somehow find this magical person who fills all of your needs without any training.

That doesn’t happen. If you’re waiting for that person to show up, you’ll wait forever. And the whole time, you’re running around trying to put out fires instead of building a business you know will thrive — not just function, but thrive — when you aren’t there.

You won’t like hearing this, but I’m going to say it because it’s the truth. The more you dislike it, the more you need to hear it:

You can’t trust your team to excel without you because you’re failing as a chiropractic CEO.

They aren’t failing you. You’re failing them.

Just sit there and let that marinate for a few minutes.

Train Your Team to Think Like You

You have two options. First, you can discover a way to clone yourself. Once you figure that out, you never need to rely on anyone.

Good luck with that one!

Second, you can train your team members to think like you.

I know I can be direct with you because I’ve been right where you are. It took me forever to realize that I couldn’t hire someone and expect them to get the same results as I was getting. And that isn’t leadership. Eventually, I learned that leaders take responsibility for their teams. I learned that I had to train people to get results.

Once I got that through my thick skull, everything changed.

When I taught them a system that worked, my team became happier. And they started making the business more money. It benefitted everyone.

Also, I knew that I could trust the people working for me because I could judge their performances based on a defined system. They weren’t running around doing their own thing without direction anymore. The business became more successful, and life got simpler.

Finally, I felt like I could take some time away without worrying that everything would burn down without me.

It worked for me, and it can work for you.

A System That Works for Chiropractic

I want to emphasize how important it is to train your associates how to sell.

I know, I know. That’s a dangerous “four-letter word” in chiropractic. But I’m telling you that sales is a critical part of service. If your team doesn’t know how to sell, then you’ll never give clients the services they need.

The system I’ve developed doesn’t rely on some sneaky, conniving sales tactics. Yuck. I don’t want to build a business based on a lie. I want to build a business that serves.

I’m talking about turning your team into revenue-generating machines… with hearts of gold. That’s the truth. That’s how I built my chiro business, and it’s how I’ve helped thousands of other chiropractors build their businesses.

Are you ready to stop micromanaging and start scaling? Are you ready to enjoy a day off? To take an actual vacation knowing that your business is crushing it while you relax? To stop babysitting your employees?
