Breaking down the 4 types of chiropractic personalities
Over the years, we’ve met a lot of chiropractors through our MasterClass and other sales training events. We find that nearly everyone falls into one of four chiropractic personalities.
Now, I want to say from the start that most of these personalities have some serious weak points that will undermine any chiropractic business. And there’s a strong chance you fall into one of those… problematic categories.
That’s not the end of the world. It really isn’t. Because knowing where you are right now means you can start learning how to make changes that will lead to huge benefits.
OK, so set your ego aside, and let’s dive in.
There’s no room for hurt feelings here. There’s only room for growth.
The Victim
Let’s get started with the most problematic personality.
The Victim already has something or someone to blame. You might hear them say:
- Covid ruined my business!
- My patients aren’t committed to their treatment plans!
- My staff never meets their goals!
Obviously, these people exist everywhere, not just in chiropractic. They’re in your family, your group of friends, in your social media feed.
And here’s the thing: some people might spot you as someone with a victim personality.
Let me be as clear as I can. Playing the victim will degrade your business. It might happen slowly, but it will happen.
And a lot of these people eventually decide they don’t want to be in the chiropractic profession anymore. They think — or more accurately, they wish — that they can find success doing something else.
What do you think happens when they pick up a new line of work?
I bet you guessed it. They continue the victim mentality there, too. Because it’s never their fault. Nothing ever is.
I’ve seen victims go through failed businesses, failed marriages, just failure after failure. They’re never going to succeed because they have the wrong mindset.
OK, let me correct that last sentence.
They’re never going to succeed until they give up that victim mindset.
If you’re thinking, “Holy crap, I’m that person!” Good. Hang around to the end of this article. That’s where you’ll find the solution to everything standing in your way.
The Dabbler
Alright, personality number two: The Dabbler.
The Dabbler has a lot of interests, and they try a lot of things. Nothing wrong with that… except that they never commit to anything. And there’s absolutely something wrong with that.
If you’re a Dabbler, you might think chiropractic is the coolest thing ever. You’re so eager to learn. You start a business, put out some marketing, hire some support staff.
And then — probably at some point in the near future — you decide it isn’t for you. But there’s a new interest that grabs your attention, and you’re going to pursue that life now…
You never really take the time to master your craft.
Just as bad, you dabble in marketing or sales or human resources. You dabble, dabble, dabble when you should commit, commit, commit.
I know you can master all the skills it takes to be a successful chiropractic CEO. Close for Chiro has the sales training you need. After that, go master the other areas of business. I see people do it all the time.
But go into this knowing that it will take hard work and a lot of time. There are no shortcuts.
The Know It All
I said that the Victim is the worst personality type. And it almost certainly is. But it isn’t the one that bugs me the most. No, the person who will absolutely drive me up the wall is The Know It All.
OK, so here’s how it goes with a Know It All. They come to a MasterClass and have the same response to everything they hear.
I might explain an approach to closing a sale.
Their response: Yeah, I tried that already.
I’ll talk about ways to train staff members to become closers.
Their response: Well, that’s just a fact everyone knows.
This person has seen it all and done it all.
So… why is their business failing? If you know everything, why are you still living in your parents’ basement, Doc?
That’s the snarky response. But, seriously, why would you pay for an event and intentionally prevent yourself from learning things?
If you want to learn, show up humble and ready to actually learn something. Maybe you do already know a lot of what you hear. I bet if you pay attention and put your guard down — and by that, I mean stop trying to prove how smart you are — you will pick up something useful from someone more experienced than you.
The Executor
I feel so much joy and optimism when I meet an Executor. Let me tell you why.
These people have so much faith in the processes they learn. They’re so willing to try.
When I talk to them, a lot say that they weren’t even sure how or why the Close for Chiro system would work for them. And if I say, “Wow, that sounds like you took a big risk,” they disagree with me.
They disagree that implementing a new-to-them process — a process they don’t fully understand — is risky. And they’re right! It isn’t that risky. What do they have to lose? Some time. A little money.
At worst, the process doesn’t work out, and they can try something else. At least they know they tried. And since they try and try and try, they find things that stick. They find the strategies that make their specific businesses successful.
Some people are just born that way. It’s amazing.
You Can Become an Executor
Maybe you weren’t born with the Executor personality. Maybe you’re a Victim, a Dabbler, or a Know It All.
Does that mean you’re doomed to fail? Of course not.
I meet very few natural Executors. That’s why our training teaches you to embrace the Executor mindset and see where it takes you.
This is absolutely a set of skills you can learn.
